Creating a Default Directory Rule

From UMS Version 5.03.100:

  1. Click on the symbol.

The Create Default Directory Rule dialog will open.

  2. Select a criterion. To help you, a search field narrows down the selection to matching parameter names while you type.

    Create Default Directory Rule

  3. Specify the comparative value and comparative operator for the criterion.

    Version Search

If you create a rule which contains a range (from - to), this will automatically be converted into a pair of rules linked with AND (from AND to). This applies for example to date or IP ranges.

  4. Select a target directory (must already exist) or select the No target directory option.

With the Choose target directory option, you have the following further options:

    Select Directory

  5. Finish creating the rule by clicking on Finish.

The order of the rules is important. Generally speaking, the default directory rules tree is worked through from top to bottom for each thin client.

If the criterion of a rule applies and it has a target directory, its children rules will be scrutinized. If none of the children rules apply, the thin client will be moved to the target directory of the rule above. If however one of the children rules applies and it has a target directory, this child rule will be taken as a new starting rule and the search will begin again.

If an applicable rule does not have a target directory, its children rules will be scrutinized.

Prior to UMS Version 5.03.100:

  1. Click on the symbol.

The Create Default Directory Rule wizard will open.

  2. Select a target directory (must already exist).

You also have the following options:

  3. Select a criterion.

    The available criteria are:

  4. Specify the comparative value for the criterion.

The possible entry ranges will vary depending on the chosen criterion.

  5. Click on Next to proceed.

You will be given an overview of the defined target directory.

  6. Enable the option Narrow search criterion or Create additional search criterion in order to define the rule more precisely.

The wizard will once again open the Select criterion window.

  7. Repeat steps 1 to 4.
  8. Click on Finish.

The new rule will be set up and will be shown in the list.

The order of the rules is important. Generally speaking, the list of rules is worked through from top to bottom for each thin client. The first applicable rule decides where the thin client is classified.
